Ammouliani: The Diamond of Halkidiki

Ammouliani, is located on the bay of Mount Athos and is the only inhabited island of Halkidiki, with 600 permanent residents who are mainly engaged in fishing and tourism, and a summer population of 5,000 inhabitants. Ammouliani, known for its truly magnificent beaches, is a popular summer resort for thousands of visitors. The absence of permanent agriculture allowed the island of Ammouliani to remain a virgin and easily characterized as an earthly paradise. It is part of the municipal district of Stagiron-Akanthou.


It will enchant you with its blue waves, fine sand and massive rocks. From the coast of Tripiti to the island, transportation by ferry and speedboat is quite common. There are daily itineraries to and from Ammouliani. The distance from the mainland is 1.7 nautical miles and the journey by boat takes about 15 minutes.

Beaches

Most beaches are sandy and you can reach them on foot or by cart, which makes the trip to Alykes a unique experience. At the same time, you can enjoy water activities on the most touristic beaches. It is still perfect for fishermen, as its turquoise waters are home to a variety of aquatic species.

Tradition and Customs

Agios Nikolaos is the patron saint of the island and its chapel was built in 1896 in the central square of the island. Around it there are monastic constructions of the 19th century, the largest of which today houses the folklore museum.
